Reupholstering a Couch?!

So yesterday I posted some really cute ideas for gray linen sofas… As predicted, Liz loved the gray linen just as much as I did and now has it in her head that she can reupholster our red living room couch! The craziest thing is that when she suggested it to Tom, he actually AGREED that it would be a fun project… Are they totally insane?! Has anyone out there tried reupholstering an entire couch?

I found an awesome tutorial from Three Boys for reupholstering a chair. The tutorial was really well explained, and the finished product looks amazing!

I THINK Liz and Tom could use the tutorial as a rough guide to refinish our couch, but this may be getting WAY over their heads :)

Gray Linen Sofas

I came across the image below on Pinterest and immediately fell in love with everything about it. The subtle wall color, the picture frames, the pillows, the small table. Everything. But most importantly, the gray linen sofa.

The sofa is so perfect, and reminded me of the sofa in the picture below. I love how both sofas are made of a bold linen (is there such a thing as a bold linen? I think so!), with good contrast between the light and dark areas of the linen.

Of course lighter gray linen sofas are also beautiful… The two L-shaped couches below would be perfect in large spaces.

Although the smaller sofa below is so sweet :)

I almost missed the light gray linen sofa in the picture below entirely — I was too busy staring at the stunning chandelier and over-sized mirror :)

My absolute favorite light gray linen sofa (at least from a profile view) is the one below — the caster feet are SO charming!

I like these lighter shades of gray best, but linen sofas in darker shades of gray could work too. I love the mix of different shades of gray in the photo below (and don’t get me started on the pops of yellow — so cute!).

I think I’d fit perfectly on the couch below :)

If you’re looking to buy a gray linen sofa, I’d suggest starting your search at CB2 or West Elm. CB2′s Avec Sofa Tweed has an awesome modern look for around $1300.

And you definitely can’t go wrong with West Elm’s Chester Tufted Upholstered Sofa at around $1200 (with matching chair!).

We currently have a red couch in our living room… Once Liz sees these gray linen couch ideas though, I’m pretty sure she’ll try to think of a way to convince Tom that reupholstering our couch would be a fun and manageable DIY project :)

Refinished Antique Dresser

Yesterday I told you about a great antique dresser Liz and Tom found at a garage sale for only $5! The “before” picture is below — it’s just the sweetest dresser, but needed a refinish.

And so my Auntie decided to give it a turquoise makeover!! She sanded the dresser down, then applied a primer, before painting it the prettiest shade of teal… “During” pictures are provided below.

Auntie was even able to find a similar piece of decorative trim at the hardware to replace the missing piece between the bottom two drawers…

The “after” pictures look amazing, if you ask me!

I just love the details of the piece :)

Anyways, hope you had a good weekend!
