Top Ten – Dog-Themed Birthday Party Decorations

As promised, below is a list of ten cute-as-can-be ideas for dog-themed birthday party decorations!

10.) Dogs! This one’s pretty obvious, but invite the pups to the party… Or if you don’t have doggy friends, at least include some dog pictures, stuffed animals, or pinatas! I love the pooch silhouette below from Julie Harrell.

9.) Fire Hydrants. I got this idea from Max and Lucy — because fire hydrants aren’t just for firefighter parties. Dogs like fire hydrants too! The fire hydrant cups, candles, and dog treat jar below would be perfect ways to add hydrants to your party :)

8.) Dog Birthday Hats. I may be partial to my own birthday hat, but the hats below are also awesome.

7.) Dog Houses. Can’t you picture kids loving these little party houses?!

6.) Puppy Paws. Now we’re getting into the REALLY critical components of dog-themed birthday parties…

5.) Dog Bones. Sugar cookies (or dog biscuits) in the shape of dog bones are great, but I LOVE the pretzel dog bones below (bottom left).

4.) Dog Kibble. The cocoa puffs look just like puppy food, although the gum drops are fun too :)

3.) Puppy Chow and Pupcorn. A couple more food options to add to the dog kibble — and best of all, these sweet printables are available from Pink Peppermint Prints on Etsy!

2.) Doggie Bags. Perfect as party favors!

1.) Pup Cakes. Last but not least, every party needs some pup cakes :) If you’re worried you can’t make pups out of icing, you can always add some cute printable toppers to regular cupcakes.

There are so many sweet dog-themed birthday party invitation ideas! I love the two girly invitations below from Etsy’s Rat Dog Ink and Jayme Marie Designs.

These custom letterpress invitations from The Handwork Chronicles would be perfect for a boy’s party though.

I didn’t find any schnauzer invitations, but I did find a few featuring boston terriers! I LOVE these party invitations from Two Pooch Paperie

Or these “Happy Barkday” invitations from Let’s Make a Living :)

And if you want to make the invitations yourself, there are some REALLY cute downloadable invitations as well! Like the dog silhouette invitation below from Julie Harrell

Or the “Come. Sit. Stay” invitations from One Charming Party. The houndstooth envelope liners are perfect!

Reminds me of the invitations below from Tie That Binds.

DIY Fabric-Covered Birthday Hat

Yesterday was my birthday, and I had just the best day! We took it easy for the most part, although we were able to take a few walks in the morning and evening when it wasn’t too hot out. And last night I got to open my birthday presents! One of my favorite gifts was definitely the DIY birthday hat that Liz made for me… I’m not a huge fan of birthday hats in general (I hate how the store-bought hats look). But this hat was awesome! Now that I’ve already worn it for my birthday, I can share how Liz made it — SO easy!

She literally took a piece of scrap paper, rolled it into a cone shape, and taped it together to form a sturdy base…

She then cut out a piece of striped fabric to roughly fit around the cone, leaving extra room around all the edges. She started by folding over and hot gluing the front middle piece of the fabric to the inside of the cone (mostly because she was using striped fabric and wanted to make sure the stripe was parallel to the bottom of the hat). After getting this part in place, she hot glued one of the edges of the fabric to the back of the cone and then worked around from the front middle to the glued back, folding and gluing along the inside rim of the hat as she went (sorry for the lack of these “during” pictures — let me know if this is at all unclear!). After this half of the hat was finished, she lined up the other flap of fabric in the back, cut any excess fabric, and glued it down in the back. She finished gluing around the rim, and she was practically finished!

My favorite part about the striped fabric she used is that it formed a chevron pattern in the back of the hat :)

Liz hot glued a little ribbon on the top of the hat for decoration, along with two long pieces of ribbon to each side of the hat to be used as ties (the ties were hot glued to the inside of the cone).

I just love how it turned out!

And to Liz and Tom’s surprise, I actually kept the thing on…

Although it DID make me hungry for birthday cake :)

Luckily, Liz and Tom had that one covered with birthday present #2… A little birthday dog biscuit from one of our local pet stores.

And last but definitely NOT least, I introduce to you my new friend, Mr. Lemur.

Hope you’ve had a good weekend! Don’t forget to enter our Amazon giftcard giveaway before next Saturday!
