A few months ago Liz found a great tutorial on The Sweetest Occasion making colorblock napkin rings from shower hooks and embroidery thread. The final version (below) turned out amazing, so Liz has been wanting to try this DIY project (pretty much since the moment she saw the tutorial)…

Well she finally got around to it! She decided to go with summery Fourth of July colors, making a couple of napkin rings red and white and a couple of rings navy blue and white. And yes those ARE the clear shower rings from Target that cost about $1.20 for a 12-pack!
The only bad thing about the shower rings are that they’re not perfectly round — there’s a groove at the connection. This would’ve driven Liz crazy, so she went ahead and glued a thin strip of paper around the ring to smooth things out. Seemed to work out pretty well!
She then hot glued the end of both the red and white embroidery thread to the inside of the shower ring and started wrapping the red thread around the ring (keeping the white thread underneath). She switched back and forth between the thread colors at different intervals and then hot glued the ends of the thread once the ring was fully wrapped.
I have to say that the rings turned out awesome!
Liz had to stop after two rings (these things are a little bit trickier than they look!)… But there are many more on the way, I’m sure :)
Anyways, hope you have a good week!
