DIY Halloween Marquee Sign

It’s been a while, but I thought I’d share a quick Halloween craft that Liz worked on over the weekend — the cutest Halloween marquee sign! Boo!! She’d been eyeing a couple of awesome DIY marquee projects from Oh Happy Day and Lolly Jane and decided to take a break from some of her work to whip together some letters of her own.

Liz ended up following the instructions from Oh Happy Day (and even used their template for letters found here). She just zoomed in on the B and O letters, since the template’s version were quite small (Liz’s finished letters ended up being about 15 inches tall). Printed out the enlarged template, cut it out, and taped together the pieces, then used it to trace the letters onto black foam board.

She used an exacto knife to cut out the “BOO” letters on two pieces of foam board, keeping the bottom edge of the letters somewhat straight to help the letters stand up on their own.

Then she roughly spaced out the lights on the letters and used the exacto knife to cut holes for the little light sockets. Speaking of which, only $12.99 for the set of outdoor globe lights from Target (found here) — at that price, I want marquee lights everywhere! Although I wouldn’t recommend leaving the lights on for long periods of time, because they tend to get hot…

Anyways, after the holes were cut out, Liz cut strips of black poster board into 5 and a half inch strips to use as the edges of the letters, attached the edges with packaging tape on the back, and voila! Cutest little DIY project ever!

They look great on the mantle :)

And I love how the glow from the lights make the letters look almost orange in the pictures, although they are in fact black when you take a closer look!

Happy (very early) Halloween!
