Thrifty Saturday – Bird Cage Music Box

Usually Tom and Liz take me on a walk to some of the nearby yard sales, but today was WAY too hot… It was already 90 degrees by 9am! So Liz and Tom drove around to a couple of sales and brought this sweet copper bird cage music box back for me.

I just love the little sunburst details at the top of the bird cage arches! It could definitely use a little cleaning, but for the most part it’s great…

And best of all, the music part actually works! There’s a little wind-up lever on the back that you crank to play the song and make the little copper bird inside the cage swing along :)

Music boxes are so sweet. If it were up to me, I’d have a whole room full of music boxes. Especially if they all looked like the one below from BHLDN. The vintage wallpaper covering the box is so charming.

Talk to you again sooooon!

Friday I’m in Love – with Sukan Handmade Design

Every once in a while I’ll come across an Etsy shop that I don’t just love, but am OBSESSED with… Such was the case when I found Sukan Handmade Design. I couldn’t resist browsing their entire selection after seeing this cute-as-can-be grey and yellow linen love birds pillow cover.

Sukan has some of the most beautiful pillow covers I’ve ever seen! The designs are just amazing, and the selection is unreal. Yes, I DID go through all 1700+ products (twice!) to show you some of my favorites…

Starting with their rectangular silk ikat pillow covers.

The silk colors are so vibrant! My favorite has to be the multi-colored ikat pillow cover below. I don’t think I’d ever get sick of it! And at around $50 for the silk covers, they’re not as expensive as some of the other designer pillow covers I’ve seen.

Of course Sukan has some higher end pillows as well — and of course, I love them even more! Below is a sampling of their Turkish and bohemian pillow covers made from antique kilim (a kind of rug!)…

My true love is for their hand embroidered pillow covers though…

I just love every single one of their pillows :)

Don’t forget to stop back tomorrow to see what Liz and Tom are able to find at yard sales (assuming they don’t melt from the heat, of course)! Hope you have a great start to the weekend!

Fruit for the Fourth of July

It MIGHT be a bit early to start thinking about the Fourth of July menu, but I couldn’t help myself! I came across some pretty sweet patriotic fruit ideas and had to share :)

Starting with the best fruit salad… I LOVE the idea of using star-shaped cookie cutters to make a Fourth of July fruit salad!

Or even simpler fruit cones using strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries.

Nothing is quite as fun as fruit on sticks though… These star-shaped fruit pops were made using watermelon, apple, and blueberries atop a paper straw — they look delicious!

The watermelon and blueberry fruit wands below look like they’re a bit less work to make but just as fun to eat :)

Of course, according to Liz, all fruit goes better with chocolate! She would love these fruit and brownie kabobs…

Or chocolate-covered strawberries!

For the adults in the group, these vodka-infused whipped cream strawberries with blueberries on the top would be a big hit!

And last but not least, a fruit tart would be perfect if you’re looking for a more advanced fruit dessert…

Or easier to handle mini fruit tarts :)
